Rotate the declination axis - how?

Post by Hamal »

Hello, in a typical balancing of the telescope, reference page 34 of the NYX101 Manual.
Starting with the NYX101 in an EQ Home position, power off.
Step 1, instructs one to "From the mount’s initial position rotate the declination axis only to 90 degrees (figure below)."
To move the mount to the illustrated position - do I physically grab the NYX's dovetail saddle and manually turn the saddle by hand and use of personal strength?
There is a significant amount of resistance there.
And after step 6 - would one power on the NYX101, and use Unity to return the NYX101 an EQ Home position?
Thanks for the clarification.

Hi,
can you post the response? I'd also be interested in knowing how it's done.

Thank you

Never try to move the NYX101 physically. Always use Unity to move the mount. Once the declination axis is rotated, power off the NYX101 - careful to watch for mount movement when using a heavy scope. Balance the scope as per the instructions on page 34 of the NYX101 product manual. When completed, power on the NYX and use Unity to move the mount back to home.
