Understanding How to use the RestAPI Better

Please help or steer me to a reference.
I am very much not a RestAPI guy. (understatement).
I grasp the "practice" or example page and my Pegasus devices can respond appropriately to the "execute" on the page.
But what I do with this? How do I incorporate these lines into, for example, my startup or shutdown scripts in ACP? I would post this question on the ACP Forum but I thought I would start here at the Pegasus end of things.

(Currently my ACP scripts work well with my UPB, for example, with my scripts first including the call to open the older pre-Unity software)
