rotator initial set up

Post by iwols »

Hi thanks for this great product cant wait for clear skies, just a quick question on the initial position ,seeing as my imaging train is all screwed together the camera lands where it lands .How does the rotator know where it is and do i have to set the initial 0 deg point,am i better plate solving an image then inserting that angle in the sync setting if that makes sense,ps using N.I.N.A for control thanks

Hi there,
There are 3 options:

1) You can manual sync the Falcon Rotator position by clicking the gear icon on the topbar (check attached image)
2) Let Falcon find the zero position (there is magnet inside the rotator so rotator can home and sync to the initial position by using its encoder). Click the 4th button on the top bar (Sync rotator with limits sensors)
3) (preffered) Let NINA do its magic. NINA uses plate solving so it will find the actual degrees of your camera image field.

NINA ignores what rotator reports and uses its own angle based on the plate solving frame. In short it works perfectly fine
